The following illuminations are scrolls done by the Bright Hills Illumination Guild. These scrolls were presented at Kingdom Crusades, October 9, 2004.
Opal scroll for Lady Alexandria Wright. Mertiger and banner inspired by heraldic displays, background inspired by works by Simon Bening, Bruges, 1500's. Done by Master Tristan Alexander, September, A.S. XXXIX. Opal badgeto be added once one is passed.
Opal scroll inspired by a Portrait medal of Leonello d’Este by Pisanello, 1444. The medal shows Cupid teaching a lion to sing. Background inspired by works in the Sforza Hours. Done by Master Tristan Alexander, September, A.S.XXXIX.
Sea Dragon scroll inspired by the works of George Bocskay and Joris Hoefnagel in the “Mira calligraphiae monumenta” of Rudolf II, 1561-1601. This is a nature study of a sea dragon ôPhycodurus equusö and a stylized rapier (to go with what the award is for). Done by Master Tristan Alexander, September, A.S. XXXIX.
Award of Arms scroll for Ingeborg i Thrandheimi based on a 13th century manuscript page showing Odin as the ancestor of the Kings of England. The figure of Odin has here been changed to that of a Viking woman holding a bowl of grapes. Done by Master Tristan Alexander, September, A.S. XXXIX.
Sharks Tooth based on “Heliodorus” F. 41r from the “Chronologic Universelle” , Bruges, 1480. Done by Master Tristan Alexander, October A.S. XXXIX.
Sharks Tooth based on Book of Wisdom, with historiated letter D (Solomon and a soldier). From the Glazier-Rylands Bible, Hainaut(?) 1260-1270. I have changed the D to a T and simplified the “dragon” border. Done by Master Tristan Alexander, October A.S. XXXIX.
