The Minister of Arts and Sciences (MOAS) encourages the arts in the Barony. It is my job to run the A&S competitions and displays at events, to report arts activities in the Barony to the Kingdom, and to arrange classes or whatever else it might take to get people to participate in the arts.
And what are 'arts and sciences'? Simply put, everything that you research and create in order to recreate the Middle Ages in the SCA. Let's not quibble about which bits are 'art' and which are 'science'; there's a little of both in everything we do and make. Don't be afraid to display your stuff, either. Does it matter if you're wearing it or if it is on a display table? Either way, we all appreciate the effort you put into making our game more rich. Half the time it is the 'stuff' that makes it so much fun, so show it off!
The MOAS relies entirely on volunteers - entrants and judges at competitions, teachers of classes, students in classes, plus enthusiastic Bright Hills people to appreciate what other members have produced and shared.
It the Barony we have a number of guilds. A guild is, basically, a group of people that get together and work on A&S projects related to the guild's theme. While many guilds are headed by an expert in that "art or science," they can also be formed and headed by people that want to lear more about that field. So if there is not a guild for the work you are interested in, then you can start one.
If you would like to teach a class, start a guild, or participate in some other way, please let me know.
